WHICH BIBLE TRANSLATION?

  • We usually quote from the “World English Bible” (WEB), but may sometimes also refer to other translations.
  • You are welcome to use any translation of your choice, more so if your mother tongue is of a different language.

CONTENT AND PRESENTATION

The study guides have been written in such a way as to be easily understood by beginners, but to also be a help to those disciples of Christ that have already made some progress in studying the Word. Mature students may want to supplement them with study material of a deeper teaching level.

Our study guides start off with Bible book studies. This entails that we deal with the Bible book by book, from Genesis to Revelation, just as they are bound into the Bible. This means that we study the Word more or less in the order that things happened, as history unfolded.

We start with Genesis because it is the book of beginnings and tells us how everything started and we close with Revelation for it tells how everything is going to end. This a logical way of studying the Word. It is like building a house; foundation, walls, roof, plastering, window panes, doors, paint, floors, furniture. If you start off by buying the furniture you will loose a lot of money and will have to start all over again.

The Bible is much easier to understand if you study it in the order in which the events took place. It is like reading a story book. If you start off by reading the second last chapter, then the third one, then the seventh one, you will soon be totally confused.

Once you have worked through the Bible book by book, you will be ready for the topical studies and also for systematical topical studies.

PLEASE DO READ YOUR BIBLE BEFORE READING THE STUDY GUIDE

Please do read the Scripture indicated at the beginning of each new paragraph or section and meditate on it, before reading the comments contained in the study guides. The Bible is so much more important than our comments, so, you must have your own Bible, read it, underline portions of it, make notes in it, think about what you read and only then read the study guides to further enlighten your insight.

MEMORISING SCRIPTURE

Memorise as much Sripture as you possibly can.  When you land up in a difficult situation, the Holy Spirit will be able to bring the right portion of Scripture to memory so that you will know how to deal with your problem.

THE PURPOSE OF STUDYING THE WORD

The Bible was given to us so that by studying it, we may get to know God and then be changed into the likeness of His Son Jesus.  Therefore, as you study the Bible, always ask yourself: “Is my studying of the Bible changing my lifestyle into the Image of Christ?” If not, get down on your knees, confess your need and plead with Him for more grace and faith.
